Aimee Belgard Endorsed by the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare

12-May-2014

(Willingboro, NJ) - The National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare - an influential organization of millions of members and supporters - has enthusiastically endorsed Aimee Belgard's candidacy for Congress in New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District.

In a letter to Ms. Belgard, Max Richtman, President and CEO of NCPSSM, said, "Our nation needs [Aimee's] leadership, vision and determination to fight for working families and older Americans. [Aimee] earned the endorsement of the National Committee because [she] understands and supports the critical roles that Social Security and Medicare play in the retirement and health security of our nation’s older citizens and their families. [Aimee is] well-prepared to serve the needs of seniors and will make the preservation of Social Security and Medicare a priority in office."

"Protecting Social Security and Medicare is incredibly important to me. I'll fight efforts to privatize Social Security or make cuts to Medicare. My opponents have repeatedly refused to say whether or not they would have supported the Ryan Budget, which would turn Medicare into a voucher system and re-open the Medicare Part D donut hole, all while giving tax breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas. Voters deserve to know where they stand," said Belgard.

Aimee Belgard is a Democratic candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 3rd district.  Aimee was elected to the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2012 following a highly competitive race, where she was outspent by her opponents by 6-to-1 and won against all odds.  As Burlington County Freeholder, Aimee works across party lines building problem-solving coalitions that have delivered results for our community.  Aimee’s consensus-driven approach to governance will help break the partisan fever in Congress and restore bipartisanship in Washington.  In her position as Freeholder, Aimee currently represents more than half of the constituents of New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.

Background:
Ryan's Budget Would Turn Medicare into a “Voucher-Style Program.”  “Ryan's plan recycles several proposals from previous years that remain popular with GOP lawmakers, including repealing the benefits of the Affordable Care Act. But he keeps the taxes and cuts to Medicare mandated by the law. He calls for privatizing Medicare by changing it from an entitlement program into a voucher-style program.” [Washington Post, 4/01/14]
